New Year’s Revolution
So what’s the deal here? New Years is a big holiday, so big most of us have the day off of work, but is it really such a big deal? It seems a bit strange to me that it gets some of the same attention as Christmas, a free day off, usually the office is desolate the night before and it is grouped in with the notorious “Happy Holidays”. Personally, I don’t really care about it, seems like our culture makes a big deal out of it for a somewhat anti-climactic ending, but I really don’t want to be a rant blogger, so…
Do we get drunk because we get the day off, or do we get the day off because we get drunk? Seems like a bit of a chicken and the egg scenario, when did this holiday start? Why did it start? Why don’t we care, at all, about a new month if a new year is so colossal? These are questions I ask myself around this time of year.
I spent this year’s New Year’s Eve in the lovely mountain town of Boulder, Colorado and had an excellent time; I also tried something new, the new year’s resolution. Many people try the resolution as a way to improve themselves a bit with a fresh start provided by a new calendar. I, personally, have never participated in this ritual until now but I am looking forward to ‘09 and following my resolution. I wont bore you with the specifics of my plan but I can assure you it doesn’t involve a gym membership or paying off Citibank.

I think it’s a NEW way to start off the NEW year. So although it does feel anti-climatic, I also think the ‘holiday’ helps to put life in perspective for some people. I’m glad you wrote a few resolutions down–making a list is affirmative and may leave a different kind of imprint on your mind for goals. Boulder is happy to have hosted you, Sir! We’re nothing but smiles at the Sundown Saloon!
